Gas Leak Repair Glasgow
If you smell gas, the National Gas Emergency line comes first: 0800 111 999. Free, 24 hours. Open windows. No switches, no flames. Then call me. I tightness test the pipework, find the leak if it is on your side of the meter, and make it safe.
Common signs
- A smell of gas in the kitchen, hall or at the meter
- A hiss at a bayonet, cooker hose or joint
- The emergency engineer has capped you off and left you with no gas
- A tightness test that failed after building work or a new appliance
- A detector that has gone off, even if you cannot smell it
What I check
- That you have already called 0800 111 999 if you can still smell gas
- A tightness test of the installation pipework
- Joints, bayonets, hoses and appliance connections
- Whether the leak is on the house pipework or needs the gas network
- Repair or isolation, then a re-test until it holds
- Appliances relit and burning safely before I leave
Check my card
Every legitimate gas engineer carries a Gas Safe ID card. Ask to see mine at the door, or check my number before I arrive. If an engineer will not show you a card, do not let them near your gas.
Questions I get asked
Should I call you or 0800 111 999?
If you smell gas right now, call 0800 111 999 first. Always. I come after the immediate danger is handled, or if you have been capped off and need the pipework repaired.
Can you turn the gas back on if the emergency engineer capped me?
If the fault is on your pipework or an appliance, I can test, repair and relight once it is tight. If the fault is on the network side of the meter, that is not my job and I will say so.
What gas do you work on?
Domestic natural gas only. If your job sits outside that, I will say so on the phone and will not take the call-out.
Where I work
Glasgow and the towns around it. If you are on the edge of the map, call anyway.
