Central Heating Repair Glasgow
The boiler is firing and the house is still cold. That is a heating problem, not always a boiler problem. I trace the system: pump, valves, controls, pipework and radiators, then I tell you what is actually wrong.
Common signs
- Some rooms heat, others stay cold
- The whole system takes hours to warm, or never does
- Pipes bang, whistle or hammer when the heating starts
- Thermostats and timers that do nothing
- A pump that is silent, or screaming
- Radiators hot at the top and ice-cold at the bottom
What I check
- Whether the boiler is actually sending heat into the system
- The pump, zone valves and any bypass
- Room stats, programmers and thermostatic radiator valves
- Air, sludge and blockages that stop flow
- Pipework that has been crushed, frozen or isolated by accident
- A run-up after the repair, so I see the house actually heat
Check my card
Every legitimate gas engineer carries a Gas Safe ID card. Ask to see mine at the door, or check my number before I arrive. If an engineer will not show you a card, do not let them near your gas.
Questions I get asked
The boiler looks fine. Do I still need you?
Yes, if the house is not heating. A boiler can pass its own checks and still fail to move heat around the pipework.
Is this a power flush?
Only if sludge is the cause. I will not power flush a system that needs a pump, a valve or a simple bleed. If a flush is the right job, I quote it first.
Can you work on my controls?
Yes. Timers, room stats and thermostatic radiator valves are part of the heating system. If a control is dead, I say so and price the replacement before I fit it.
Where I work
Glasgow and the towns around it. If you are on the edge of the map, call anyway.
