Boiler Service Glasgow
A service is not a wipe with a cloth. I strip the bits that clog, test the bits that keep you safe, and leave a record of what I found. Most warranties ask for this every year. Even if yours does not, a neglected boiler fails at the worst time.
Common signs
- The service is overdue, or you cannot find last year's record
- The boiler is noisier than it used to be
- You have had lockouts that reset and come back
- The flame looks lazy, yellow or sooty
- A landlord or insurer has asked for a service, not just a CP12
What I check
- Combustion with a flue-gas analyser, not a guess
- The flue, terminal and seals
- Burner, electrodes and condensate trap
- Safety devices: flame supervision, pressure, overheat
- Operating pressure and a visual check for leaks
- A written record of the service when I finish
Check my card
Every legitimate gas engineer carries a Gas Safe ID card. Ask to see mine at the door, or check my number before I arrive. If an engineer will not show you a card, do not let them near your gas.
Questions I get asked
How much does a boiler service cost?
£80, booked in advance. If I find a fault, I stop and quote the repair before I go further.
Is a service the same as a landlord gas safety check?
No. A CP12 is a landlord safety certificate. A service is maintenance. Landlords often need both. I do the CP12 as a separate job.
How long does a boiler service take?
Usually under an hour on a clean, accessible boiler. If I find a fault, I stop and quote the repair before I go further.
Will this keep my warranty valid?
Most manufacturer warranties need a yearly service by a Gas Safe engineer. Keep the record I leave you. I cannot speak for every brand's small print, so check yours if you are unsure.
